On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.
What you’ll need
- 4 Letter sheets — office paper, 80 gsm (20 lb)
- Markers
- Pencil — and eraser
- Ruler — 8–12 in
- Scissors — small
- Glue stick
- Skewers — 5 pcs, 5⅞ in long, ⌀⅛ in (trim longer ones)
- Thread or string
- Tape or thread — to tie the skewers
- Glass — phone stand
Steps
Sheet 1
- Sheet 1: white sheet. The white sheet should be under the camera now. The template has 4 sheets.
- Daisies: outlines. Trace six daisies: three large and three smaller. Each has eight petals with a notch between them: its point stops ¼–5/16 in short of the center.
- Daisies: center. Mark a small cross in the center of each daisy: the skewer will go in here.
- Cone: outline. Trace a 4¾ × 4¾ in square with a ruler: you’ll roll it into the cone.
Sheet 2
- Sheet 2: yellow sheet. Remove the previous sheet and put the yellow sheet in its place, lined up edge to edge. Don’t move the phone — the scale stays the same. The sheet is white — the parts get their color at the coloring step.
- Strips: outlines. Trace five strips with a ruler: three long ones, 7⅛ × ½ in, and two short ones, 4⅜ × ⅜ in.
- Strips: fringe line. Draw a line along each strip: the fringe cuts will go up to it. The tick marks at the left edge show the spacing, 1/16 in: the fringe is cut from this side.
- Yellow. The paper is white, but these parts should be this color on both sides: color them up to the outline, then turn the sheet over and color the back.
Sheet 3
- Sheet 3: pink sheet. Remove the previous sheet and put the pink sheet in its place, lined up edge to edge. Don’t move the phone — the scale stays the same. The sheet is white — the parts get their color at the coloring step.
- Flowers: outlines. Trace four flowers with five petals each: two large and two small. Neighboring petals meet at one point, and each petal tip has a notch, like a little heart.
- Flowers: cuts. From each point where the petals meet, draw a straight line toward the center. It ends ¼ in from the cross, just like on the screen.
- Flowers: center. In the center of each one, a small cross for the skewer.
- Pink. The paper is white, but these parts should be this color: color them in completely, up to the outline. Move the marker in one direction.
Sheet 4
- Sheet 4: green sheet. Remove the previous sheet and put the green sheet in its place, lined up edge to edge. Don’t move the phone — the scale stays the same. The sheet is white — the parts get their color at the coloring step.
- Leaves: outline. Trace three leaves with a short stalk.
- Leaves: vein. Down the middle of each one runs a fold line — a dash-dot line from the tip to the start of the stalk.
- Stems: strips. Five 5⅛ × 5/16 in strips — with a ruler. You’ll wrap the skewers with them.
- Green. The paper is white, but these parts should be this color: color them in completely, up to the outline. Move the marker in one direction.
Cut
- Cut out: daisies — 6 pcs. Cut out six daisies. Cut the notch between the petals with two cuts from the edge to its point: turn the sheet, not the scissors.
- Cut out: square for the cone. Cut out the square using a ruler.
- Cut out: strips for the centers — 5 pcs. Cut out five strips using a ruler. You’ll cut the fringe in a separate step, after everything else is cut out.
- Cut out: pink flowers — 4 pcs. Cut out the four flowers along the outline, making the notch at each petal tip with two short cuts. Then, between the petals, make a straight cut along the line: it ends ¼ in from the center.
- Cut out: leaf — 3 pcs. Cut out three leaves along with their stalks.
- Cut out: stem strip — 5 pcs. Cut out five strips using a ruler.
- Cut the fringe. On each yellow strip, cut the fringe: make the cuts every 1/16 in, from the edge with the tick marks up to the line. The narrow edge beyond the line stays uncut — the glue goes there.
Centers
- Wind it onto the skewer. Apply glue to the uncut edge of a long strip and wind it tightly onto the blunt end of the skewer, with the fringe sticking out past the end. Glue down the end of the strip — you’ll get a roll as thick as a pencil.
- Fluff the fringe. Once the glue sets, bend the fringe outward with your finger, from the edge toward the middle. The roll will open into a fluffy center about ¾ in wide.
- Four more centers. Wind the other strips the same way, each onto its own skewer. That makes three large centers from the long strips and two small ones from the short ones.
Flowers
- Curl the petals. Pull each petal between your finger and a pencil — the tip will curl upward. Also squeeze the pink petals from the sides to form a cup.
- Small daisy onto the skewer. Lay the small daisy on an eraser, cup side up, and pierce the cross with the pointed end of the skewer that has the large center. Put a drop of PVA glue under the center and slide the daisy up the skewer as far as it goes.
- Large daisy next. Slide on the large daisy the same way. Turn it so its petals fall between the petals of the small one, and press it from below until the glue sets.
- Two more daisies. Assemble the other two daisies the same way: on a skewer with a large center, add the small layer first, then the large one.
- Pink flowers. On the skewers with the small centers, slide on the pink layers: the small one, then the large one behind it, with the petals staggered. That makes five flowers.
Stems
- Wrap the skewer. Glue the end of the green strip at an angle, right under the flower, then turn the skewer: the strip will wind on in turns, each one slightly overlapping the last. Secure the tip with glue.
- Four more stems. Wrap the other four skewers the same way. On each one, 2¾–4 in below the flower is covered in green.
- Leaf. Fold the leaf lengthwise along the fold line and open it up — a vein will remain. Don’t fold the stalk: apply glue to it and wrap it around the stem 1⅛–1⅝ in below the daisy.
- Two more leaves. Glue leaves to two more flowers the same way: the second daisy and one pink flower.
Bouquet
- Fan them out. Arrange the flowers in a fan: daisies at the back, pink ones in front and ⅝ in lower. Wrap the skewers together at the bottom ends with tape or thread.
- Wrap in the cone. Lay the square down as a diamond, with the bouquet along the diagonal and the skewer ends ¾ in from the bottom corner. Fold one side corner over the stems, then the second one on top, with a drop of glue under it.
- Tie the bow. Wrap a ribbon around the cone where the skewers are tied and tie it in a tight bow: the paper will press against the skewers and hold the bouquet.
Done. The mini bouquet is done. You can cut flowers in other shades from the same templates — enough for a whole armful.
