Marigold Pom-pom

Marigold Pom-pom

A fluffy orange marigold pom-pom made of three fringed circles. The circles are folded in quarters, cut into strips up to the inner circle, glued together at the centers, and the strips are fluffed out. Several flowers on a thread make a garland for the holiday.

On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.

What you’ll need

Steps

Trace

  1. Large circle: outline. Trace the circle with a solid line. You’ll cut along it.
  2. Large circle: marks. Trace the inner circle, where the cuts will stop, and four pairs of short marks at the edge: the space between the marks is the width of a strip.
  3. Medium circle: outline. Trace the circle with a solid line. You’ll cut along it.
  4. Medium circle: marks. Trace the inner circle, where the cuts will stop, and four pairs of short marks at the edge: the space between the marks is the width of a strip.
  5. Small circle: outline. Trace the circle with a solid line. You’ll cut along it.
  6. Small circle: marks. Trace the inner circle, where the cuts will stop, and four pairs of short marks at the edge: the space between the marks is the width of a strip.

Color

  1. Orange. The paper is white, but these parts should be this color: color them in completely, up to the outline. Move the marker in one direction.

Cut

  1. Cut out: large circle. Cut out the large circle along the outer line, turning the sheet. Don’t cut the fringe yet.
  2. Cut out: medium circle. Cut out the medium circle along the outer line, turning the sheet. Don’t cut the fringe yet.
  3. Cut out: small circle. Cut out the small circle along the outer line, turning the sheet. Don’t cut the fringe yet.
  4. Fold in quarters. Fold the large circle in half with the markings outside, edge to edge, and in half again. Crease the folds: the corner is the center of the circle.
  5. Cut the fringe. Cut strips as wide as the gap between the marks, about ⅜ in: from the edge toward the corner, through all four layers at once, and stop at the arc of the inner circle.
  6. Unfold. Unfold the circle: fringe around the edge, and the center is whole. Do the same with the medium and small circles.

Flower

  1. Lift the fringe. Fold the circle in quarters again, squeeze the corner (the center) with your fingers, and unfold it: the strips will stand up like a little cup. Do the same with the medium and small ones.
  2. Glue the circles together. Put glue on the center of the large circle and set the medium one in it, with its strips between the strips of the large one. Do the same on top with the small one. Press the centers with your finger.
  3. Fluff it out. Lift the strips of the small circle almost vertically, the medium one’s at a slant, and the bottom ones slightly up. Curl each tip outward with your finger: the flower will get fluffy, like a pom-pom.

Done

  1. The flower is done. The marigold is done. For a garland, make a few more and tape them to the thread by their bottoms, every 3⅞ in.

Done. The marigold is done. Make five to seven more flowers and tape them to a thread every 3⅞ in — you’ll get a garland for the holiday.
