Corner Bookmarks: Animals

Two bookmarks from one Letter sheet: a fox and a bunny. The square comes from folding, and the face and ears are traced through the camera. The cat and the little dragon are folded the same way.

On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.

What you’ll need

Steps

Fold

  1. Fold the sheet in half. Fold the sheet in half — short edge to short edge. Crease the fold, unfold and cut along it: you get two halves.
  2. Square. Fold the left short edge of the half over to the bottom long edge so that edge lies on edge: you get a triangle. Cut off the strip on the right along the edge of the triangle and set it aside: the ears will come from it.
  3. Top layer — down. Place the triangle with the long fold toward you. Fold the top layer of the far corner toward you, with its tip at the middle of the long fold; the bottom layer stays in place.
  4. Side corners — up. Fold the left and right corners up, to the far corner. You get a diamond with a seam down the middle.
  5. Tips — into the pocket. Turn the bookmark around with the tips toward you — they are darker in the picture. Lift the left corner, bend its tip back and tuck it into the pocket: under the edge, between the layers. Press down and repeat with the right one.
  6. Second bookmark and strip. Fold an identical bookmark from the second half. Fold one strip in half, short edge to short edge: the ears will come from it, and the other strip is a spare.

Trace

  1. Fox: bookmark under the camera. Place the bookmark under the camera with the pocket away from you and slide it until the pocket edges line up with the triangle and the seam lies on the dashed line. Don’t trace or cut the triangle: it is the edge of the bookmark.
  2. Fox: face. Using thin lines, trace the eyes with highlights, the nose, the mouth, and the arc from corner to corner — below the arc the face stays white. Don’t trace the cheeks: draw them straight in marker.
  3. Bunny: bookmark under the camera. Place the bookmark under the camera with the pocket away from you and slide it until the pocket edges line up with the triangle and the seam lies on the dashed line. Don’t trace or cut the triangle: it is the edge of the bookmark.
  4. Bunny: face. Using thin lines, trace the eyes with highlights, the nose and the mouth. The face itself stays white.
  5. Ears: outlines. Put the strip, folded in half, under the camera with the fold facing sideways: its bottom edge goes along the bottom line of the ears. Trace both ears: the pointed one is the fox ear, the long one is the bunny ear.
  6. Ears: drawing. Each ear has an inner part and a line across the bottom: the glue goes below it. On the fox’s ear, mark the zigzag tip.

Color

  1. Fox: coloring. Above the arc in orange; below the arc the paper stays white. Cheeks as pink ovals, like the example; eyes, nose and mouth in black — don’t color the highlight in the eyes.
  2. Bunny: coloring. Nose and cheeks in pink: draw the cheeks as ovals, like the example. Eyes and mouth in black; don’t color the highlight in the eyes.
  3. Ears: coloring. The fox ear is orange with a black tip and a white inner part. The bunny ear has a pink inner part. Don’t color below the line.

Cut

  1. Cut out the ears. Without unfolding the strip, cut out both ears through both layers at once — you’ll get four; the bottom of each ear is the edge of the strip, so don’t cut it. Two ears are white: color them the same way as the first ones.

Glue

  1. Glue on the ears. Apply glue to the bottom of an ear below the line, on the colored side, and slide it under the top edge of the bookmark until the line is hidden. The tips point up and slightly outward: pointed ears for the fox, long ones for the bunny.
  2. Slide it onto the page. Open a book or notebook and slide the bookmark onto the corner of a page: the page goes into the pocket.

Done. Both bookmarks are done. The cat and the little dragon are folded the same way: only the face and ears change.
