Corner Bookmark: Little Monsters

Three corner bookmarks for a book: a one-eyed monster, a horned one, and a toothy one. Each is a single piece with a fold and a tab: the half with the face folds over the blank half, and the pocket slips over the corner of a page.

On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.

What you’ll need

Steps

Trace

  1. Toothy monster: outline. Trace a big triangle and a narrow strip-tab along its long side with a solid line; make the bottom edge zigzag points — those are the teeth. You’ll cut along these lines.
  2. Toothy monster: folds. Dashed line 1 goes between the tab and the triangle, dashed line 2 goes from the middle of the long side to the right angle. Write the numbers next to them: don’t cut along these lines.
  3. Toothy monster: drawing. Copy with thin lines two eyes with pupils, the cheeks and a straight line above the teeth.
  4. One-eyed and horned monsters: outlines. Trace two big triangles with narrow tabs along the long side with a solid line — the top one lies upside down — and two little horns on the right. You’ll cut along these lines.
  5. One-eyed and horned monsters: folds. On each triangle: dashed line 1 goes between the tab and the triangle, dashed line 2 goes from the middle of the long side to the right angle. Write the numbers next to them: don’t cut along these lines.
  6. One-eyed and horned monsters: drawing. Copy both little faces with thin lines — only on the halves with a tab; the one-eyed monster lies upside down, so draw it that way. On the horns, draw stripes and a line across the bottom: the glue goes below it.

Color

  1. Color: toothy monster. The face above the straight line — orange, cheeks — pink, pupils — black. Leave the teeth, the whites of the eyes and the highlights white.
  2. Color: one-eyed and horned monsters. The one-eyed monster — green, the horned one — purple, cheeks — pink, pupils and smiles — black; don’t color the whites of the eyes, the highlights or the fangs. Horns — yellow with orange stripes. The tabs and the blank halves stay white.

Cut

  1. Cut out: toothy monster. Cut along the solid line, keeping the tab attached to the triangle. Cut into each notch between the teeth from both sides.
  2. Cut out: one-eyed and horned monsters — 4 pcs. Cut out both corner bookmarks along the solid line — the tab together with the triangle — and the two horns. Don’t cut the dashed lines.

Fold

  1. Tab to the back. Flip the bookmarks face down. Fold the tab along dashed line 1 onto the triangle — onto the back of the face — and crease the fold with your fingernail.

Glue

  1. Glue the corners. Put glue on the tab. Fold the half with the face along dashed line 2 over the blank half: the tab goes inside and the face ends up on top. Line up the edges and press.
  2. Horns at the back. Flip the horned monster face down. Put glue on the bottom of a horn below the line — on the colored side — and press that side onto the bookmark near the top corner, one horn on each edge: the line goes along the edge, and the tips point outward.

Check

  1. Slide it onto the page. Open a book or notebook and slip the bookmark over the corner of a page: the page goes into the pocket all the way to the tip. The toothy monster bites the page, and the horns stick out from the edges.

Done. All three bookmarks are done. Slip one over the corner of a page — it stays on by itself and won’t fall out of the book.
