Pyramid Box

A pyramid with a 2⅛ in base, made from two pieces: the base with a door, and a fan of three faces. The sides glue onto the base tabs, and the door opens and closes without glue — two flaps hold it shut. The stripes and heart are drawn with markers.

What you’ll need

• Letter sheet — office paper, 80 gsm (20 lb)
• Markers
• Pencil — and eraser
• Ruler — 8–12 in
• Empty pen — to score the folds
• Scissors — small
• Glue stick — or PVA glue
• Glass — phone stand

Steps

Trace

1. Bottom: outline. A square with three tabs and a triangle door, with two flaps on the door. Put dots at all the corners using the screen, then connect them with a ruler.
2. Bottom: folds. The sides of the square and the lines by the flaps are dashed: you fold along them.
3. Bottom: drawing. On the door, draw three stripes across and a little heart between the pink one and the mint one. Leave the square and the tabs blank.
4. Sides: outline. A fan of three triangles with a shared top point. Put dots at the top point and at the corners, then connect them with a ruler.
5. Sides: folds. The two lines from the top point between the triangles are dashed.
6. Sides: drawing. On each triangle, the same three stripes as on the door, without the heart.

Color

7. Color: door. The wide stripe by the bottom and the heart — pink, the middle one — mint, the tip — yellow.
8. Color: sides. Bottom stripes — pink, middle ones — mint, tips — yellow.

Cut

9. Cut out: bottom. Cut out the base together with the tabs, the door and the flaps. At the tip of the door, cut right into the corner.
10. Cut out: sides. Cut out the fan of three triangles. Cut the long edges along a ruler.

Fold

11. Score and fold. Score all the dashed lines with an empty pen along a ruler. Turn the pieces face down, fold each line up and let go.

Glue

12. Base tabs. Lay the base with the door drawing face down. Lift the three tabs up and slightly inward and put glue on their outside. Don’t glue the door.
13. Sides onto the tabs. Fold the sides into a tent along the two lines and lower them onto the base: press each triangle against its own tab from the outside. The tips meet at one point. Hold for 10 seconds.

Assemble

14. Close the door. Put a gift inside. Fold the door flaps inward and close it: the flaps tuck under the neighboring faces, and the door stays shut without glue.

Done. The pyramid is done. To open it, pull the door by its tip: the flaps will slip out on their own.
