Paper Dice
A die with 1⅝ in edges, made from two strips of three faces each. The dots are black, and the one is a big red dot. The dots on opposite faces add up to 7, just like on a real die.
- Easy
- 1 1⅝ in die
- 8 tabs

On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.
What you’ll need
- Letter sheet — office paper, 80 gsm (20 lb)
- Markers
- Pencil — and eraser
- Ruler — 8–12 in
- Scissors — small
- Glue stick — or PVA glue
- Empty pen — to score the folds
- Glass — phone stand
Steps
Trace
- Strip 1: outline. Three squares in a row, with three tabs on top and three on the bottom. Using the screen, mark dots at all the corners, then connect them with a ruler.
- Strip 1: folds. Draw the lines between the squares and by the tabs as dashed lines — don’t cut along them. Tab numbers: on top 1, 2, 3, on the bottom 6, 7, 8.
- Strip 1: dots. Trace the circles: four, one big one, three — as on the screen.
- Strip 2: outline. Again three squares in a row, with tabs only on the middle one, on the top and bottom. Dots at the corners, lines with a ruler.
- Strip 2: folds. Draw the folds as dashed lines and number the tabs 4 and 5.
- Strip 2: dots. Circles: two, six, five — as on the screen.
Color
- Color: strip 1. Color the dots black and the big single dot (the one) red. Don’t color the tabs.
- Color: strip 2. Color all the dots black. Don’t color the tabs.
Cut
- Cut out: strip 1. Cut out the strip together with the tabs. At the corners between the tabs, cut in from both sides.
- Cut out: strip 2. Cut out the strip together with the tabs. At the corners between the tabs, cut in from both sides.
Fold
- Fold both strips. Score all the dashed lines with an empty pen along a ruler. Then fold each line away from you, dots facing out — tabs too.
Glue
- A U shape and a bracket. Fold strip 1 into a U shape, with all six tabs inward. On strip 2, fold in the lid with two dots and tabs 4 and 5; leave the bottom alone for now.
- Lid and back wall. Put glue on tabs 1–3 and 4–5. Fit strip 2 on from the back: the lid sits on tabs 1–3, and tabs 4 and 5 go inside the sides. Press from the inside with your finger through the open bottom.
- Bottom. Turn the die bottom side up. Put glue on tabs 6–8 and close them with the last face — the one with five dots. Squeeze the die and hold for 10 seconds.
Check
- Roll the die. Shake the die in your hands and roll it onto the table. Play with a friend: take turns rolling — whoever rolls higher gets a point.
Done. The die is done. Play with a friend: take turns rolling — whoever rolls higher gets a point, and the first to ten points wins. Need a second die? Make another one from the same template.
