Gift Bow

Gift Bow

A fluffy “star” bow about 3⅛ in across: six red loops, six white ones between them, and a little red ring in the center. Each figure eight is made of two strips glued together. It sticks onto any box or gift bag.

On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.

What you’ll need

Steps

Sheet 1

  1. Sheet 1: red sheet. The red sheet should be under the camera now. The template has 2 sheets. The sheet is white — the pieces get their color at the coloring step.
  2. Red strips: frame. Using a ruler, trace a 4⅜ × 3½ in rectangle. It will make six strips for the big loops.
  3. Red strips: lines. Inside it, draw five lines ⅝ in apart — also with a ruler. You’ll cut the rectangle into strips along them.
  4. Ring: strip. Using a ruler, trace a 3½ × ⅝ in strip — it will make the little ring for the middle of the bow.
  5. Red. The paper is white, but these parts should be this color: color them in completely, up to the outline. Move the marker in one direction.

Sheet 2

  1. Sheet 2: white sheet. Remove the previous sheet and put the white sheet in its place, lined up edge to edge. Don’t move the phone — the scale stays the same.
  2. White strips: frame. Using a ruler, trace a 3⅜ × 3½ in rectangle. It will make six strips for the small loops.
  3. White strips: lines. Inside, draw five lines ⅝ in apart, as on the red sheet.

Cut

  1. Cut out: red strips. Cut out the rectangle along the frame. Don’t cut the lines inside yet.
  2. Cut out: strip for the ring. Cut out the strip for the ring along the frame.
  3. Cut out: white strips. Cut out the rectangle along the frame. Don’t cut the lines inside yet.
  4. Cut the strips. Cut both rectangles along the lines. You’ll get six red strips and six white ones, all ⅝ in wide; the ring strip is already done.

Figure eights

  1. Strips in pairs. Spread glue on ⅜ in at the end of a red strip and lay the end of a second red strip on it: you get one long strip. Glue the rest the same way — three long red strips and three white.
  2. First figure eight. Lay a long red strip color side down and spread glue on its middle, where the seam is. Curl one end into a loop and press it to the middle, then do the same with the other end from the opposite side. You have a figure eight.
  3. Five more figure eights. Roll all the strips the same way: two more red and three white. Hold each one for half a minute so the ends don’t come loose.

Bow

  1. Red star. Stack the three red figure eights into a star: turn each next one a third of a turn from the previous one and glue it center to center. You get six loops in a circle.
  2. White ones between the loops. Glue the white figure eights on top the same way, but with the loops in the gaps between the red ones. Centers exactly on top of each other.
  3. Ring in the center. Roll the ring strip into a loop and glue it with a ⅜ in overlap. Spread glue on the seam and press the ring, seam side down, right in the center of the bow.
  4. Onto the gift. Let the glue dry for a couple of minutes. Spread glue on the bottom of the bow — the middle of the bottom figure eight — and press the bow onto the gift’s lid.

Done. The bow is done. If the gift is in a bag, stick the bow on with double-sided tape — that way it won’t wrinkle the paper.
