Fox Ears Headband

Fox Ears Headband

A paper headband sized to your own head: a white band made of two strips, and two orange fox ears with white tips. The strips come from folding the sheet, and you trace only the ears through the camera; the band fits a head up to 20¾ in around, and bigger heads need an insert from a second sheet.

On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.

What you’ll need

Steps

Trace

  1. Left ear: outline. Fold the sheet in half lengthwise, long edge to long edge, and unfold it. Trace the ear on one side of the fold, with its tip ⅜ in from the short edge of the sheet: the other half stays clean.
  2. Left ear: drawing. The jagged line sets off the white tip and dips lower toward the left edge; below it are two fur strokes. The straight line at the bottom is the edge of the tab.
  3. Right ear: outline. Slide the sheet along the fold: the second ear goes on the same half, right below the first, almost touching it. The strip below it will come out narrower than the band, so if you need an insert, cut it from another sheet.
  4. Right ear: drawing. The same drawing, mirrored: the jagged line dips toward the right edge, and the fur strokes sit at that edge too.

Color

  1. Color: left ear. Color the middle orange, from the jagged line down to the straight line. Leave the tip and the tab white, and color the fur strokes brown.
  2. Color: right ear. Same way: orange middle, white tip and tab, brown fur strokes.

Cut

  1. Cut out: left ear. Cut with scissors along the solid line: start from the nearest long edge of the sheet and don’t cut the clean half. Cut toward the pointed tip from both sides so the two cuts meet.
  2. Cut out: right ear. Same way, from the same edge of the sheet: don’t cut the clean half.
  3. Cut the sheet along the fold. Cut the sheet along the fold you already made. The clean half becomes the headband.
  4. Two strips. Fold the clean half in half lengthwise once more and cut along the fold. You get two strips, 2⅛ × 11 in — no ruler needed.

Glue

  1. Fold along the ear. Fold each ear in half lengthwise, with the drawing facing out, edge to edge, and open it only partway. With this crease the ear stands up and doesn’t flop over.
  2. Ears — onto the strip. Apply glue to the ear’s tab on the drawing side and press the ear onto the strip face down, 1⅝ in from its end: the tab line runs along the edge of the strip. Put the second ear at the other end; on both ears the fur strokes sit closer to the ends of the strip.
  3. One long band. Glue the second strip to the end of the first, overlapping by ⅜ in, on the same side as the ears’ tabs. That makes a band 21¾ in long.

Try on

  1. Fit it to your head. Wrap the band around your head with the ears at the front, the end of the back strip going under the front one. Pinch the seam with your fingers, take the headband off, and tape the seam on the outside and the inside.

Done. The headband is ready. Put it on with the ears facing forward — and that's it.
