Bow Hair Clip

Bow Hair Clip

A little bow made of two figure eights: a red one and a white one with red polka dots, with “swallowtail” tails. The knot in the middle wraps around a hair clip, so the bow holds on the metal without glue. It attaches to a hair tie the same way.

What you’ll need

Steps

Trace

  1. Bow: outlines. Trace five pieces with a solid line: two strips for the loops, two tails with a notch, and a short strip for the knot. You’ll cut along these lines.
  2. Bow: polka dots. On the narrow strip, sketch the polka dot circles — lightly, like the sample on the screen.

Color

  1. Color the polka dots. Color the circles on the narrow strip red; the strip itself stays white.
  2. Red. Color the areas that match this color. Move the marker in one direction — you’ll get fewer streaks.

Cut

  1. Cut out: bow — 5 pcs. Cut out all five pieces along the solid line. Make the notch on the tails with two cuts that meet.

Little bow

  1. Red figure eight. Lay the big strip red side down and spread glue on the middle. Curl one end into a loop and press it to the middle, then the other end from the opposite side. You have a figure eight.
  2. Polka-dot figure eight. Roll the narrow strip into the same kind of figure eight, polka dots out. Spread glue on the underside of its middle and glue it exactly onto the middle of the red one.
  3. Tails. Turn the bow over. Spread glue on the straight end of the tails and glue them to the middle, on the underside, crisscrossed: notches down and out to the sides.
  4. Knot with the clip. Pinch the middle of the bow with your fingers — it will gather into folds. Put the clip underneath, along the bow, and wrap the knot around the middle of the bow and the top half of the clip. Glue the ends with an overlap at the back and press them down with a piece of tape.
  5. Fluff up the loops. Let the glue dry for a couple of minutes and fluff up the loops from the inside with your finger: they’ll get puffy. The bow is done — clip it on.

Done. The little bow is done. Fluff up the loops with your finger — and clip it into your hair.
