Hedgehog with an Acorn

Hedgehog with an Acorn

A little hedgehog with a white face and triangle spikes carries an acorn and a maple leaf on its back. It stands on its own: the strip underneath has one half folded forward and the other back.

On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.

What you’ll need

Steps

Trace

  1. Sturdy sheet from two. Apply glue stick over the whole surface of a sheet of printer paper, press a second sheet onto it, and smooth with your palm from the middle to the edges. You'll get a thick sheet — work on that one. Put it back in the same spot, edge to edge; don't move the phone.
  2. Hedgehog: outline. Trace the hedgehog with a solid line: the nose, the spines as triangles, and the stand strip at the bottom. In the middle of the strip is a cut from the bottom up to the top of the strip.
  3. Hedgehog: folds. Above the strip are two fold lines. Draw the left one as a dash-dot line: that half folds forward. Draw the right one as a dashed line: that half folds back. Don’t cut along them.
  4. Hedgehog: drawing. The border of the white face, an eye with a highlight, the nose, a smile, a cheek, two little feet at the ground and strokes for the spines — with thin lines.
  5. Acorn and leaf: outlines. Trace the acorn with its little stem and the maple leaf.
  6. Acorn and leaf: drawing. On the acorn’s cap, draw the edge and a little crosshatch; on the leaf, draw veins radiating from the middle.

Color

  1. Color: hedgehog. Spines and back — brown; leave the face white. Eye and nose — black, don’t color the highlight, cheek — pink. Spine strokes and feet — a darker brown. Don’t color the stand.
  2. Color: acorn and leaf. Acorn — orange, cap and little stem — brown, go over the crosshatch more heavily. Leaf — red, veins — brown.

Cut

  1. Cut out: hedgehog. Cut out the hedgehog together with the strip at the bottom. In the middle of the strip, make a short cut from the bottom up to the dashed line. Cut the spikes one at a time: from the notch to the tip and back to the next notch.
  2. Cut out: acorn and leaf — 2 pcs. Cut out the acorn and the leaf along the solid line. On the leaf, cut from the notch to the tip of each point.

Glue

  1. Acorn and leaf. Spread glue on the back of the acorn’s bottom half and stick it onto the spikes, with its top sticking up above the hedgehog’s back. Put the leaf next to it, closer to the tail.

Base

  1. Fold the stand. Fold the left half of the strip forward and the right half back, both at a right angle, and crease the folds. Stand the hedgehog on the table: one half lies in front of it, the other behind it.

Check

  1. The hedgehog is done. Put the hedgehog on the holiday table or a shelf. Make it a friend: a second hedgehog with a different leaf.

Done. The hedgehog is done. Put it on the holiday table or a shelf; you can make another one to stand next to it — with a different leaf.
