On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.
What you’ll need
- 1 Letter sheet — white, up to 100 gsm (25 lb)
- Marker
- Pencil — and eraser
- Scissors — with sharp tips
- Thread or string
- Tape — narrow
- Glass — phone stand
Steps
Trace
- Spider: outline. A white sheet is under the camera. Before folding the sheet, trace the “Spider” piece — it’s below the pattern, to the right of the center of the sheet. You’ll cut it out at the very end.
- Spider: color. Color the piece. Colors:
- Fold line. Use a ruler to draw a dashed line 4⅛ in from the left edge of the sheet, and fold the sheet exactly along it: the left part lies on the right. The folded sheet lies on the right half of the template.
- Cobweb: outline. Trace half of the design: from the fold and back to the fold. The other half will appear on its own when you unfold the sheet.
- Cobweb: windows. Trace the windows inside the outline. Along the fold they appear as halves — they’ll become whole when you unfold the sheet.
Cut
- Cut out: cobweb. Without unfolding the sheet, cut both layers at once: the outline first, then the openings. For an opening in the middle, poke through with the scissor tip and cut toward the line.
- Cut out: spider. Unfold the rest of the sheet. Cut the piece out along its outline.
Unfold
- Unfold. Carefully unfold the sheet and smooth the fold with your fingernail. If the halves stick to each other, separate them with the tip of a knife.
Hang
- Twine. Stretch a piece of twine about 23½ in long: tie the ends to chair backs or tape them to a wall.
- Onto the twine. Stick the top ends to the twine with small pieces of tape: the middle one first, then the outer ones — that way the sheet hangs straight.
- Spider — into place. Attach the “Spider” piece with a small piece of tape rolled into a loop — in the same spot as in the picture.
Done. The decoration is ready. Hang it where there's a light draft: it will sway.
