Trace

  1. Leaves: outlines. Trace the six leaves with a solid line: two maple, two oak and two birch, each with a stem. The bottom row is upside down — that way the leaves fit in the frame.
  2. Leaves: folds. Across each stem, draw a short dashed line: the stem is folded over the string along it.
  3. Leaves: veins. Draw the veins with thin lines: on the maple, as rays from the middle; on the oak and birch, in a herringbone pattern off the center vein.

Color

  1. Color: leaves. Top row: maple — red, oak — orange, birch — yellow. Bottom row: maple — yellow, oak — red, birch — orange. Stems — the same color as the leaf, veins — brown on top.

Cut

  1. Cut out: leaves — 6 pcs. Cut out all six leaves along the solid line. Don’t cut off the stem: that’s what the leaf hangs by.

Thread

  1. Onto the thread. Lay the leaves face down in a row, 3¼–3½ in apart, stems toward the thread. Lay the thread across the stems, along the dashed line. Spread glue on the top half of each stem, fold it over the thread, and press it onto the rest of the stem. Leave 6–8 in of thread at each end.
  2. Hang it up. Lift the garland by the ends of the thread: the leaves will hang tips down. Tie the ends or tape them in place.

Done. The garland is done. Hang it on a window, a door, or above the holiday table; you can slide the leaves along the thread.
