On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.
What you’ll need
- Letter sheet — office paper, 80 gsm (20 lb)
- Markers
- Pencil — and eraser
- Scissors — small
- Glue stick — or PVA glue
- Glass — phone stand
Steps
Trace
- Donut: outline. Trace the big circle with a tab on the left and the hole in the middle — both lines are solid, and you’ll cut along them.
- Donut: fold. A short dashed line sets off the tab: it will fold back along it.
- Donut: icing. Trace the wavy icing — on the outside and around the hole — then sketch in the little sprinkle dashes.
- Base: outline. A second circle of the same size — the base of the card.
- Base: drawing. In the middle, a heart; on the left, a spot for the tab and a narrow strip along the edge; around them, a few sprinkle dashes.
Color
- Donut: coloring. Color the icing pink, and the edge of the donut and the strip by the hole light brown. Then draw sprinkle dashes right on the icing: blue, green, yellow. Leave the tab white.
- Base: coloring. Color the heart red and leave the highlight white. Add sprinkles in the same three colors, and color the narrow strip along the left edge light brown.
Cut
- Cut out: donut. Cut out the donut along the outer line, together with the flap. For the hole: put the donut on an eraser and poke a pencil through the middle, then put the scissors into the hole and cut around the circle.
- Cut out: base. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.
Fold
- Fold the flap. Fold the flap back along the dashed line, under the donut, and crease the fold with your fingernail.
Glue
- Glue to the base. Lay the base heart side up and apply glue to the spot for the flap — the strip on the left. Cover the base with the donut, edge to edge: the flap goes onto the glue, and the heart sits right under the hole.
Write
- Write a message. Open the donut like a book. On its back — on the left — write a message in pencil or pen.
Check
- Close the card. Close the card: a heart peeks out through the donut hole. It’s ready to give.
Done. The card is done. Close it — a heart peeks out through the donut hole.
