On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.

What you’ll need

Steps

Trace

  1. Liner: outline. Trace the strip 4⅜ × 1 in.
  2. Liner: folds. Thirteen lines across, 5/16 in apart: alternate a dash-dot line and a dashed line.
  3. Liner: stripes. Mark which stripes will be pink: every other one, starting with the first. At the bottom, a line along the edge.
  4. Frosting and cherry: outlines. Trace the cloud with eight waves and, next to it, the cherry with a leaf.
  5. Frosting: cut. A line from the edge to the middle of the cloud — you’ll cut along it.
  6. Frosting and cherry: drawing. On the frosting, draw a little face and sprinkles, plus one more line from the middle to the right — the edge of the glue area. Don’t draw anything between that line and the cut. On the cherry, draw a highlight and the vein of the leaf.

Color

  1. Color: liner. Color every other stripe pink, and the line at the bottom too.
  2. Color: frosting and cherry. Color the sprinkles in different colors: red, blue, yellow, green. Color the eyes black and the cheeks pink; the frosting stays white. Color the cherry red (don’t color the highlight) and the leaf green.

Cut

  1. Cut out: liner. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.
  2. Cut out: frosting and cherry — 2 pcs. Cut out the cloud along its waves and cut it along the line to the center. Cut out the cherry together with its leaf.

Fold

  1. Accordion. Fold the liner accordion-style along all the lines: dash-dot lines toward you, dashed lines away from you. Squeeze it into a stack and crease it.

Glue

  1. Roll up the liner. Spread glue on the last step and roll the accordion into a ring: the last step goes under the first one. Squeeze the bottom together and open up the top.
  2. Ball inside. Crumple the scraps from the sheet into a ball the size of a walnut and put it in the liner: it should peek out over the top by 1/16–⅛ in.
  3. Frosting into a cone. Spread glue on the wedge between the cut and the line. Bring the edge of the cut over to the line — the circle becomes a cone. Press the seam from the inside.
  4. Frosting onto the liner. Spread glue on the top of the ball and the rim of the liner. Put the frosting on top, seam to the back, and press.
  5. Cherry. Spread glue on the back of the bottom half of the cherry and press it onto the top of the frosting, in front: the top with the leaf peeks out above the frosting.

Check

  1. Done. Stand the cupcake on the table and look at it from all sides: the frosting seam is at the back, and the face looks at you.

Done. The cupcake is done. You can make two more from the same sheet: color the liner a different color and the frosting pink or chocolate.
