On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.
What you’ll need
- Letter sheet — office paper, 80 gsm (20 lb)
- Markers
- Pencil — and eraser
- Scissors — small
- Glue stick — or PVA glue
- Glass — phone stand
Steps
Trace
- Buns: outlines. Trace the two circles: the top bun and the bottom bun.
- Buns: drawing. On the top bun, draw seven sesame seeds, eyes with a highlight, cheeks, and a smile. On both buns, draw a crust line along the edge.
- Patty and cheese: outlines. Trace the patty, a circle with an uneven edge, and the square of cheese.
- Patty and cheese: drawing. On the patty, draw three slanted grill stripes and dots; on the cheese, four holes.
- Lettuce and accordions: outlines. Trace the wavy lettuce leaf and, next to it, four strips, 2 × ¾ in.
- Accordions: folds. On each strip, draw four lines, one every ⅜ in, taking turns: a dash-dot line, then a dashed line.
- Lettuce: veins. A small circle in the middle and nine veins going from it to the edge.
Color
- Color: buns. Both buns — orange; leave the seeds and the highlights in the eyes white. Crust and the outline of the seeds — brown; eyes — black; cheeks — pink.
- Color: patty and cheese. Patty — brown; stripes and dots — black. Cheese — yellow; holes — orange.
- Color: lettuce. Color the leaf lime green and the veins and the little circle green. The accordion strips stay white.
Cut
- Cut out: buns — 2 pcs. Cut out both circles along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors.
- Cut out: patty and cheese — 2 pcs. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.
- Cut out: lettuce and accordions — 5 pcs. Cut out the lettuce along the wavy edge, then the four strips along the straight lines.
Fold
- Fold the accordions. Fold each strip accordion-style along the lines: the first fold toward you, the second away from you, and so on, back and forth. You get a spring with five steps.
Glue
- Build the filling. Glue the patty to the middle of the lettuce, and the cheese on top of it with a corner toward you: the cheese corners hang over the edge of the patty.
- Accordions onto the bun. Spread glue on the bottom step of an accordion and glue it to the bottom bun, ⅝ in from the center. Do the same with the second one on the other side.
- Filling onto the accordions. Spread glue on the top steps of both accordions and set the filling on them, cheese side up, its center over the center of the bun.
- Two more accordions. Glue the two remaining accordions onto the cheese — the same way, by their bottom steps, ⅝ in from the center.
- Top bun. Glue on the top steps. Cover the burger with the top bun, face toward you, and press for 10 seconds.
Check
- Press the top. Press the top bun with your finger and let go: the accordions squish down and bounce the layers back up.
Done. The burger is done. Press the top bun — the accordions spring.
