What you’ll need

• Letter sheet — office paper, 80 gsm (20 lb)
• Markers
• Pencil — and eraser
• Scissors — small
• Glue stick — or PVA glue

Steps

Trace

1. Arms: outline. Trace the strip with mittens at the ends: it’s the same at the top and the bottom. You’ll cut along the solid line.
2. Arms: folds. Three dashed lines: line 1 runs lengthwise down the middle, and lines 2 and 3 are short ones across the bottom half.
3. Arms: drawing. Copy the twigs, mittens, cuffs and thumbs — at the top and also mirrored at the bottom.
4. Snowman: outline. Trace the snowman with a solid line: the pom-pom, hat with a cuff, head and body in one outline.
5. Snowman: drawing. Copy the hat, the face with a carrot nose, the scarf, the buttons and the little heart on the belly with thin lines.

Color

6. Color: arms. Color the twigs brown and the mittens red; the cuffs stay white. Don’t color the middle of the strip: it goes behind the back.
7. Color: snowman. Color the hat and the little heart red, the scarf green with red stripes, the nose orange and the cheeks pink. Color the eyes, mouth and buttons black.

Cut

8. Cut out: arms. Cut out the arms along the solid line. Between the mittens at the ends there’s a small notch: cut into it from both sides.
9. Cut out: snowman. Cut out the snowman along the solid line. Cut into the notches by the neck and the hat from both sides.

Glue

10. Arms, folded in half. Lay the arms drawing side down. Spread glue on the bottom half and fold the strip along line 1: the pattern will be on both sides. Smooth it with your fingernail.
11. Arms — onto the back. Turn the snowman over drawing side down and spread glue on his back where the little heart is. Place the folded strip on it with lines 2 and 3 facing up: the fold at the bottom, the lines at the edges of the body.

Fold

12. Close the hug. Turn the snowman face up. Fold the arms forward along lines 2 and 3 and lay them on the belly: the mittens meet in the middle and hide the little heart.

Done

13. Spread the arms apart. Lean the snowman against a glass or a book and spread his arms apart — there’s a little heart on his belly. Write a greeting on the back.

Done. Your card is done. Write a greeting on the back and fold the arms — let the snowman hug whoever you give it to.
