Pumpkin Card

A mini pumpkin-shaped card: a jack-o’-lantern face on the front and a green stem with a leaf on top. It folds like a tent and stands on the table, with room inside for a greeting.

What you’ll need

• Letter sheet — office paper, 80 gsm (20 lb)
• Markers
• Pencil — and eraser
• Scissors — small
• Glue stick — or PVA glue
• Glass — phone stand

Steps

Trace

1. Card: outline. Trace two pumpkins with a solid line: the bottom one and the upside-down top one. Where their tops touch there’s no line — that’s the fold.
2. Card: fold. Between the pumpkins there’s a dashed line: the card will be folded along it with the drawing facing out.
3. Card: drawing. On the bottom pumpkin, draw a face: triangle eyes, a nose and a smile with teeth. On both pumpkins, draw the ribs as thin arcs.
4. Stem: outline. Trace the stem with a leaf as one piece.
5. Stem: drawing. Draw a vein on the leaf, two lines on the stem and a line across the bottom: there will be glue below it.

Color

6. Color: card. Color both pumpkins orange and the ribs and edge brown. Color the eyes, nose and mouth black; don’t color the highlights in the eyes or the teeth black.
7. Color: stem. Color the stem and leaf green, and add the vein and edge with dark strokes of the same marker.

Cut

8. Cut out: card. Cut out the card as one piece: the two pumpkins are joined at their flat tops — don’t cut along the dashed line.
9. Cut out: stem. Cut out the stem together with the leaf. Cut the corner between them with two cuts that meet.

Fold

10. Fold along the dashed line. Fold the card along the dashed line, drawing side out: pumpkin to pumpkin, edge to edge. Crease the fold with your fingernail and open it into a tent.

Glue

11. Stem. Put glue on the back of the stem below the line and stick it to the front pumpkin, in the middle of the top: the line sits on the fold, and the stem and leaf stick up.

Assemble

12. Greeting. Open the card flat and flip it over toward you: the pumpkin without a face will be closer to you. Write your greeting on it with a pen or a thin marker.

Done

13. Stand it up like a tent. Stand the card up like a tent: the face looks at you, the stem points up. Give it along with a candy.
