Pop-up Bunny Card

Pop-up Bunny Card

Open the card and a white bunny with a heart pops up in the middle. It stands on a V-fold: it’s folded in half, and the two tabs at the bottom are glued to the pages. There’s a carrot on the cover.

On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.

What you’ll need

Steps

Sheet 1

  1. Sheet 1: white sheet. The white sheet should be under the camera now. The template has 1 sheets.
  2. Bunny: outline. Trace the bunny with a solid line, together with the two tabs at the bottom. Between the tabs there’s a V-shaped notch: trace it too.
  3. Bunny: folds. Three dashed lines: the middle one, from the top of the head to the notch, and the bottom edge of the bunny, above the tabs. Don’t cut along them.
  4. Bunny: drawing. Copy the face, the ears, the little heart with tiny paws, the paws, and the grass at the bottom — with thin lines.
  5. Carrot: outline. Trace the solid line — the edge of the “Carrot” piece. You’ll cut along it.
  6. Carrot: drawing. Copy the drawing with thin lines: the picture on the screen is your guide. It doesn't have to be exact to the millimeter.
  7. Bunny: coloring. Color the insides of the ears, the nose, cheeks and pads pink, the little heart red, the grass green and the eyes black. Don’t color the highlight. The bunny itself stays white.
  8. Carrot: coloring. Color the carrot itself orange and the leaves green.

Base

  1. Green: color the sheet (optional). The sheet is white. You can color it in this color all over, on both sides, before marking it out (that takes longer) — or leave it white: the craft will come out white.
  2. Fold the base. You don’t trace this sheet. Fold it in half along line 1, short edge to short edge, and in half again along line 2 — you get a 4¼ × 5½ in card. Fold 1 is its top edge.

Cut

  1. Cut out: bunny. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.
  2. Cut out: carrot. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.

Fold

  1. Fold the bunny. Fold the tabs back along the bottom line and unfold them. Then fold the bunny in half along the center line with the drawing facing out and crease it: the tabs stay flat.

Glue

  1. Bottom tab. Open the card and lay the folded bunny on the right page: the slanted edge of the tab runs along the card’s fold, and the head points diagonally toward the bottom edge. Slide the bunny along the fold until the ears stop ⅜ in short of the bottom edge. Put glue on the side of the bottom tab that faces the page, and press it down.
  2. Top tab. Put glue on the top tab — the one facing up. Close the card and press down with your palm. Open it all the way: the bunny stands up.
  3. Carrot onto the cover. Close the card. Put glue on the back of the carrot and stick it in the middle of the cover, leaves up.

Check

  1. Open the card. Open the card all the way — the bunny stands up with its heart. Close it — the bunny folds down inside by itself.

Done. The card is done. Open it all the way and the bunny stands up; close it and it folds down inside on its own.
