Penguin Card
A blue penguin has its wings folded over its tummy. Open them like little doors — on the white tummy there’s a heart and your message. It’s all from two sheets: the body and wings are blue (the backs of the wings can stay white), and the tummy and feet are white.

On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.
What you’ll need
- 2 Letter sheets — office paper, 80 gsm (20 lb)
- Markers
- Pencil — and eraser
- Scissors — small
- Glue stick — or PVA glue
- Glass — phone stand
Steps
Sheet 1
- Sheet 1: blue sheet. The blue sheet should be under the camera now. The template has 2 sheets. The sheet is white — the pieces get their color at the coloring step.
- Body: outline. Trace the solid line — the edge of the “Body” piece. You’ll cut along it.
- Wings: outlines. Trace both wings with a solid line: they’re mirror images.
- Wings: folds. Each wing has a dashed line along the straight edge: that’s the hinge, and beyond it is a tab for glue.
- Blue. The paper is white, but these parts should be this color: color them in completely, up to the outline. Move the marker in one direction.
Sheet 2
- Sheet 2: white sheet. Remove the previous sheet and put the white sheet in its place, lined up edge to edge. Don’t move the phone — the scale stays the same.
- Tummy and feet: outlines. Trace the tummy and the feet with a solid line. You’ll cut along these lines.
- Tummy and feet: drawing. On the tummy, draw eyes with a highlight, a beak, cheeks and a little heart, with two lines under it for your message. On the feet, draw the webbing and a line across: above it is a strip for glue.
- Tummy and feet: coloring. Color the beak and feet orange, the cheeks pink, the little heart red and the eyes black. Don’t color the highlight. The rest of the tummy stays white.
Cut
- Cut out: body. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.
- Cut out: wings — 2 pcs. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.
- Cut out: tummy and feet — 2 pcs. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.
Fold
- Fold the tabs. Fold each wing along the dashed line as a mountain fold (away from you): the side with the lines is on the outside of the fold. Crease with your fingernail and unfold. The narrow strip past the dashed line is the tab for the glue.
Glue
- Tummy onto the body. Put glue on the back of the tummy and stick it on the body: the face goes under the top of the head, leaving a blue border on the sides.
- Wings and feet on the back. Flip the penguin face down. Put glue on the wing tabs on the blank side and stick them to the back near the side edges: the dashed line along the edge, the side with the lines facing up, and the wings sticking out to the sides, tips down. Glue the feet by their strip behind the bottom edge so they stick out underneath.
- Message. Flip the penguin face up and write your message on the lines under the heart.
- Fold the wings. Fold the wings over the tummy, one after the other: they meet in the middle and cover the message. The blue side is on the outside, and the face stays uncovered.
Check
- Open the wings. Open the wings like little doors — the penguin shows your message. Fold them back, and it’s ready to give.
Done. The penguin is done. Fold the wings and the message is hidden; open them and the penguin shows it.
