Peekaboo Kitty Card

Peekaboo Kitty Card

A ginger kitty peeks out from behind the cover, holding onto its edge with its paws, with its tail sticking out at the side. The card is a Letter sheet folded in quarters; the head, paws and tail are traced through the camera, colored and glued on.

On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.

What you’ll need

Steps

Sheet 1

  1. Sheet 1: white sheet. The white sheet should be under the camera now. The template has 1 sheets.
  2. Head: outline. Trace the solid line — the edge of the “Head” piece. You’ll cut along it.
  3. Head: drawing. Copy the face with thin lines: eyes with a highlight, nose, mouth, whiskers, and stripes on the forehead and cheeks. Across it runs the card edge line: there will be glue below it.
  4. Paws and tail: outlines. Trace the two paws and the tail with a solid line. You’ll cut along these lines.
  5. Paws: fold. Across each paw there’s a dashed line: the paw will bend over the edge of the cover along it. Don’t cut along it.
  6. Paws and tail: drawing. At the ends of the paws, draw four pads, and below the fold, two stripes. On the tail, draw stripes and a line at the base: there will be glue to the left of it.
  7. Head: coloring. Color the head orange, the stripes brown, and the insides of the ears, nose, cheeks and little heart pink. The muzzle around the nose and the chest stay white. Color the eyes black, but don’t color the highlight.
  8. Paws and tail: coloring. Color everything orange, the stripes brown and the pads pink.

Base

  1. Light blue: color the sheet (optional). The sheet is white. You can color it in this color all over, on both sides, before marking it out (that takes longer) — or leave it white: the craft will come out white.
  2. Fold the base. You don’t trace this sheet. Fold it in half along line 1, short edge to short edge, and in half again along line 2 — you get a 4¼ × 5½ in card. Fold 1 is its top edge.

Cut

  1. Cut out: head. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.
  2. Cut out: paws and tail — 3 pcs. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.

Fold

  1. Fold the paws. Fold each paw along the dashed line with the drawing facing out and crease it with your fingernail: the pads are on one side of the fold, the stripes on the other. You’ll get a little “clothespin.”

Glue

  1. Head inside the card. Open the card. Put glue on the back of the head — only below the line — and stick it in the middle of the right page: the line goes exactly along the top edge, and the ears stick up above the card.
  2. Tail by the page edge. Put glue on the back of the tail — to the left of the line — and stick it by the right edge of the same page, a little below the middle (≈ 2⅝ in from the bottom): the tail sticks out, with the tip pointing up.
  3. Close the card. Close the cover and crease the fold. The kitty’s ears and eyes stay above the top edge, and the tail sticks out at the side.
  4. Paws onto the cover edge. Open the cover slightly. Put glue inside the paw’s fold and slip it over the top edge of the cover like a clothespin: pads on the outside. Do the second one the same way, under the other eye (≈ 1¾ in from the first).

Check

  1. Stand up the card. Stand the card up with the cover slightly open: the kitty peeks out from behind it, holding the edge with its paws.

Done. The card is done. Write on the cover or inside — the kitty will keep peeking out until someone opens the card.
