Kitty in a Mug Card
A mini pocket card: orange ears stick out of a light blue mug. Pull them — a kitty slides out holding a “LOVE” heart. It won’t fall out: its shoulders catch on the glued edge.

On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.
What you’ll need
- Letter sheet — office paper, 80 gsm (20 lb)
- Markers
- Pencil — and eraser
- Scissors — small
- Glue stick — or PVA glue
- Glass — phone stand
Steps
Trace
- Mug: outline. Trace the mug with a solid line: a straight top, a rounded bottom and the handle on the right.
- Mug: drawing. Trace the rim along the top, the “hole” in the handle, the “PULL THE EARS” text with arrows, and three little hearts.
- Back wall: outline. Another mug — exactly the same, with a solid line. This is the back wall of the pocket.
- Back wall: glue border. Trace the line inside with a thin line: the “gate” along the sides and the top. Glue goes outside of it; the kitty slides up and down inside.
- Kitty: outline. Trace the kitty: a head with little ears and, at the bottom, wide shoulders. They keep the kitty from falling out.
- Kitty: drawing. Trace the eyes with highlights, the nose, the whiskers, the muzzle and the “LOVE” heart in its paws. At the bottom there’s an arrow.
Color
- Mug: coloring. Mug — light blue, rim and the handle hole — blue, hearts — red, text — black.
- Kitty: coloring. Head — orange, the insides of the ears and the cheeks — pink, heart — red, leave the letters white. Don’t color the shoulders: they can’t be seen.
Cut
- Cut out: mug. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.
- Cut out: back wall. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.
- Cut out: kitty. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.
Glue
- Kitty into place. Lay the back wall lines up. Place the kitty in the “gate”: shoulders on the bottom line, ears sticking up over the rim of the mug.
- Glue around. Spread glue on everything outside the line: the edges, the bottom, the handle and the two wide pads at the top — the kitty stops against them, so put on extra glue there. Don’t get glue on the kitty.
- Mug on top. Lay the mug drawing side up exactly on the back wall, edge to edge. Press the edges and the handle — don’t press the middle.
Check
- Pull the ears. When the glue dries, pull the kitty by the ears — it slides out with the “LOVE” heart and stops at its shoulders. Push on the top of its head — it hides again.
Done. The card is done. Pull the ears and the kitty slides out with the heart; push on the top of its head and it hides again.
