On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.

What you’ll need

Steps

Trace

  1. Envelope: outline. Trace the solid line: a rectangle with tabs and a heart on it. You’ll cut along it.
  2. Envelope: folds. Draw the four fold lines as dashed lines. Write the numbers 1, 2, 3: you’ll fold in this order.
  3. Envelope: heart. Copy the heart with the notch between its two halves, and the curved highlight. Don’t color the white spots at the shoulders and between the halves.
  4. Note: outline. Trace the rectangle with rounded corners.
  5. Note: message. Copy “I love you” and the little heart, or write your own message.

Color

  1. Envelope: coloring. Color the heart red and leave the curved highlight white.
  2. Note: coloring. Color the message and the little heart red.

Cut

  1. Cut out: envelope. Cut out the envelope along the solid line. Don’t cut between the two rounded tops of the heart: that’s a fold, and the flap hinges on it.
  2. Cut out: note. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.

Fold

  1. Fold. Turn the envelope over, heart side down. Fold toward you, one at a time, the sides (1), the bottom (2) and the heart (3); crease each fold with your fingernail and unfold.

Glue

  1. Sides and bottom. Fold in both sides along lines 1. Spread glue on them at the bottom, where the bottom flap will go, fold the bottom up along line 2 and press. You have a little pocket, open at the top.
  2. Note. Slide the note into the pocket from the top, message toward you, all the way to the bottom.
  3. Close it with the heart. Dab glue where the tip of the heart will go, and fold the heart down along line 3. Press the tip.

Done. The little envelope is done. Instead of a note, you can tuck in a photo or a tiny drawing — no bigger than 2⅜ × 1⅝ in.
