On VanGami the template appears over your sheet through your phone camera — no printer needed. Trace it, cut, fold and glue. Below are all the steps in text.

What you’ll need

Steps

Trace

  1. First circle: outline. Trace the circle with a solid line. You’ll cut along it.
  2. First circle: fold. The line through the middle is a dashed line: the circle will be folded in half along it.
  3. First circle: border. Draw the edge of the border lightly: a wavy line 3/16 in from the edge.
  4. Second circle: outline. Same as before: trace the circle with a solid line.
  5. Second circle: fold. The line through the middle is a dashed line.
  6. Second circle: border. The wavy edge of the border: draw it lightly.
  7. Fortunes: outlines. Trace the four strips with a solid line.
  8. Fortunes: words. Copy the fortunes in your own handwriting, following the example. You can make up your own, one per strip.

Color

  1. First circle: coloring. Color the middle yellow, the border orange, and the dots orange on top of the yellow. Don’t color the back.
  2. Second circle: coloring. Same as before: the middle is yellow, and the border and dots are orange.
  3. Fortunes: pen. Go over the words in black with a thin marker or a pen.

Cut

  1. Cut out: first circle. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.
  2. Cut out: second circle. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.
  3. Cut out: fortunes — 4 pcs. Cut with scissors along the solid line. Turn the sheet, not the scissors — the cut will come out neater.

Fold

  1. Fortune inside. Turn the circle drawing side down. Lay the strip across the middle of the circle — right where the fold line is on the other side. One end sticks out past the edge by ⅜ in.
  2. Fold in half. Fold the circle in half with the drawing facing out, the strip inside. Crease the fold only lightly: the cookie should stay puffy.
  3. Cookie. Hold the half circle by its corners, fold toward you. With a finger push the middle of the fold inward and bring the corners down toward each other: the fold will bend into a check mark and the halves will puff out.

Glue

  1. Secure it. Spread glue on the corners where they touch each other and squeeze with your fingers for half a minute. Don’t touch the strip — it gets pulled out later.
  2. Second cookie. Fold the second cookie the same way, with a different fortune. The two remaining strips are spares.

Check

  1. Pull out the fortune. Give the cookie as a gift: the fortune is pulled out by its tip. The strip moves freely if glue hasn’t caught it.

Done. Two cookies are done, and two more strips are for the next ones. Give a cookie and ask them to pull the fortune out by the tip.
